Free Wallpaper Roll Estimator
Use our wallpaper calculator to calculate how many rolls of wallpaper will be needed for your project, taking into account room dimensions and pattern repeat.

As part of your measurements, it’s recommended that windows and doors be taken out. Doing this will enable more accurate estimations of room area as well as prevent over or underbuying wallpaper.
How to Use
No matter what your goal may be, choosing wallpaper that matches it will bring your project to life. Estimating exactly how many rolls of wallpaper you require can save both money and time!
Our wallpaper calculator makes ordering just the right amount easier than ever! Simply input your room dimensions – including width and height for each wall – into our tool to discover how much wallpaper roll covers in total – don’t forget about doors and windows which might take up additional space than walls alone!
Start by measuring each wall’s length and height from floor to ceiling, including baseboards and crown molding. Add up all these measurements for all walls in your room before subtracting doors (about 40 square feet of area for one door) and smaller windows (10 or so square feet each).
Once you’ve taken all your measurements, use our calculator to ascertain how many wallpaper rolls will be necessary for your project. A standard European bolt of wallpaper measures 20.5 inches wide by 33 feet long – covering approximately 56 square feet on walls; American versions tend to cover 70 square feet. Please allow up to 5% extra material for waste and pattern matching purposes.
If you’re using patterned wallpaper in a room, be sure to take into account both width and height of pattern repeat, along with any other design elements in the space. For instance, if your vertical repeat is small, multiply finished height by two or three in order to account for it in calculations. When purchasing continuous bolt or yard wallpaper sales, divide usable coverage per bolt/meter by the number of drops to calculate how many yards or meters of wallpaper will be necessary.

Once you know exactly how much wallpaper is required for your project, take the total and add 10% for touch ups or mistakes – this way there will be enough left over for future projects or repairs of damage.
Measure Your Walls
Accurate measurements are key to any DIY project’s success, and starting by measuring each wall’s width and length is your first step in doing this successfully. Once this data is available, combine all these numbers together to get your total wall area and then multiply that total by its width to calculate how many rolls of wallpaper will be necessary (the calculator takes this into account automatically).
Use a tape measure rather than a ruler for more accurate results and round your measurements up to the nearest foot to eliminate fractions and decimals, helping reduce waste while guaranteeing you have enough wallpaper for the task.
Consider any windows and doors present when assessing a room, since their smaller sizes require less wallpaper coverage. Subtract their areas from your total room area only if these walls will not be covered in wallpaper; otherwise you could end up overestimating what amount will be needed.
Once you know the total wall area, divide it by the usable square footage of one wallpaper roll – different patterns may offer differing amounts of coverage; check manufacturer instructions for more information on this point. Add 5-10% extra for waste and pattern matching purposes.
Remember, wallpapering always brings unexpected surprises; therefore, leave yourself extra wallpaper just in case something unexpected crops up while working on your project. By doing this, any mistakes or uneven areas can be corrected quickly to save both time and money during this process – helping save both frustration and time during its completion.
Enter Your Room’s Dimensions
Once you have calculated the dimensions of your room’s walls, enter them into this calculator. Make sure to include windows, doors and closets when adding in sizes for these features; subtracting area from them could make matching patterns across rolls more challenging.
If you need assistance calculating the size of a room, try walking from one end of it to the other while counting how many paces it takes you to reach its opposite wall, then multiplying that figure by three to get its square footage.
Next, choose from the available types of wallpaper (Peel and Stick Removable Woven, Pre-Pasted or Non-Pasted), which will then display their coverage per roll and how many rolls will be necessary to cover your room’s measurements. When selecting roll length, be sure to round up as having extra material available will reduce trimming time and waste material. Moreover, ensure your purchased roll matches its lot/run/batch number for best color matching results.
Click “Calculate”
Once you’ve entered your wall measurements, click “Calculate” to estimate how many rolls will be necessary to cover your room based on 56 square feet per roll – this conservative estimate should provide enough wallpaper for full coverage as well as some left over for later projects.
To calculate your needs, first carefully measure each wall you intend to paper, making sure all walls are included and any areas taken up by doors or windows (your wallpaper hanger can wrap their paper around these areas) are disregarded. Next, convert all measurements to inches for easier calculations.

Divide the total wall height by the pattern repeat (if applicable), rounding to the nearest inch. For vertical patterns, add 4-6 inches.
Step Three – Divide Your Finished Height By Number Of Drops Per Double Roll Wallpaper This will give you your estimated number of double rolls required to cover your room (Step One). Be sure to double-check this estimate for accuracy – or bring in your measurements into a local retailer so they can help double check them for you.
