Window Unit Temperatures can be unforgiving, and many people enjoy the comfort that comes with owning an air conditioning unit in their home or office. As with most products, there are numerous options to choose from when buying an AC. This article focuses on one aspect of your buyer's decision: Portable AC Vs. Window Unit, which one should you get? Portable and Window ACs: Comparisons 1. Price AC prices tend to vary widely depending on factors such as power per BTU, size, and brand. As such, there is no precise measure of whether the portable option or window unit is more affordable. That said, a portable AC and window unit designed to cover a room measuring 100 to 300 square feet may cost around $300 to $400 and $150 to $550, respectively. 2. Portability Once a window unit is installed, it is designed to stay in that spot and cannot be easily moved and reinstalled in a different area. Portable ACs, on the other hand, are very easy to lift and move. 3. Installation Aside from being easy to move, portable ACs are also easy to install and can be moved from room to room during the day. Window units, however, are heavy and involve tricky installation because they must be fitted, so they hang out of the window. 4. Space A window unit doesn’t eat up floor space in your home because it hangs out of the window. The same cannot be said for a portable AC, which will use up some space. Conclusion The primary consideration in the Portable AC Vs. The window Unit debate is the size of your home. If you live in a large space and expect to use your AC in different rooms throughout the day, a portable AC is a wise investment. On the other hand, if your home is relatively small and you cannot spare any floor space, you should consider getting a window unit. Other considerations – portability, price, etc. – should take center stage when space is not an issue. Related Articles Read how to install a window ac here
